cleaning painted pitted rims

Does anybody know how to clean a painted rim that is pitted?I take the rims off the car when I clean them which makes the job a little harder because now I see all kinds of stuff that shouldnt be there.My rims have black disaster areas that I need some advice on how to get rid of.

A few applications of DWC should take care of it.

Worst case you can clay with DWC if you still can't get it by soaking alone.

So the paint on rims is the same kind of paint that is on the body.I always heard that you clay to a clean surface before you polish or wax it.
