As much as you want/need to get the results your looking for.. There isn't a set amount to use, especially since your clear coat and the severity of your scratches is different than everyone else's.

 

The only time you need to apply a proper amount of pressure is when using a machine because it can affect the rotation and movement of the pad.

If you were using a strong compound I'd say be careful but with Adam's it's safe to do by hand without the risk of going through your clear.

I'll say this, in most cases you don't have to rub hard, let the correcting polish do the work for you.
