mikegeaney
My work location was moved over the summer. I now have a 40 mile drive to and from work for the 2 or 3 days per week that I actually go into the office. It's all multi lane highway going from Massachusetts into New Hampshire. I had a Valentine 1, but I returned it because it was going off too much. Didn't see the logic in keeping a $400 detector that I was just muting and ignoring. I am now considering an Escort/Passport 8500. They have a 30 day money back "test drive" program. Just pinging the user community to see if anyone has any comments on that detector or recommendations for another that I have yet to consider. Thanks in advance for any attention. jjwvette
V1 is the only one I'll use:thumbsup: Did you set it so you won't get all those false alarms?
jub jub
I use the Escort 8500. I believe the V1 and Escort 8500 are pretty much the defacto standards in the car community.
lanespd200
I don't find radar detectors useful......thats just my opinion. I will sit on the highway and just turn mine off and on in the police car just to watch people put their brakes on. Silly and mean I know but it can be fun......just think about it. LOL Since I don't write tickets really, I should be allowed to have some fun. Right?

Adam
V1 is the only one I'll use:thumbsup: (However, after a few thousand miles with my Valentine One, I ended up with more tickets than before!) Seems some Highway Patrol officers now use a laser that can be switched on as it clocks speed, then turned off. As soon as I heard, the buzz, I saw the lights! Sold mine on Ebay for what I paid for it new, so the only real expense was the 4 speeding tickets and doubled insurance rates.

Adam
I have a problem: First, road trips are my all time favorite! Rather drive than fly anytime. I make the trip from CO to CA, 1,080 miles in one day, no sweat, smiling! My driver is a hopped up diesel Excursion with 450 hp and 800 ft lbs of torque. Just love the sound of the turbo when it hits 30lbs of boost! Anyway, put 70K miles on this thing in the last two years, which puts me out there a little more than most people, so I have to pay the price of driving extra miles. At least I earned each ticket that I've recieved! Funny story: I was doing about 95 on the 83 in PA last summer. Came over the hill, and BOOM, my detector went nuts. Highway Patrol was hiding behind a bridge, out he came, while I may have slowed to 80 - 85. I pulled over, and he walked up to my window. I was trying not to laugh, as don't recall ever getting so 'busted!' He asked, "Do you know why I pulled you over?" I replied, "Out of state license plates?" I'm laughing just thinking about it again! He only wrote me for 80 in a 65, and was a nice guy. Edited December 5, 2008 by Adam
70'sChevyGirl
Thieves broke into my Camaro and stole my radar detector along with the T-tops and some CDs. When I called the police to make a report...the LEO that came to make the report asked me what I needed a radar detector for. "Uhmmmmmmmm...so I don't get caught speeding" Did he think that I just liked to watch the lights flash and the beeps going off?? I bought a new one but I find that I have very good luck and haven't hooked it up in my car. I have never had a ticket before in my life. (Knock on Wood) I have been pulled over by a LEO that was pacing behind me though. No radar detector will pick that up. I have a Whistler of some sort. Retired_CPO
....until you buy that G8GT! Yeah...I'm hoping after the holidays! But I won't be driving it much...it will be a garage queen. There is no way I can give up my truck...we've been through so much. I've had my truck longer than any of my kids.
08G8V8
Yeah...I'm hoping after the holidays! But I won't be driving it much...it will be a garage queen. There is no way I can give up my truck...we've been through so much. I've had my truck longer than any of my kids. Mine is the same way. I use my Silverado as a daily driver and drive the G8 when it's nice. Been thinking about getting a radar detector, for those days I am driving it. But, I think I'd have about the same luck as Adam! c5golfguy
V1 Saved me more times then I can count. Haven't had a ticket in 12 years. <I'm going to knock on some wood> /thread.
Bill-V8V
I have a V1 in the vette and wouldn't leave the garage without it  When I bought it everyone seemed to agree that the V1 and Escort 8500 were the top 2. So I bought both. I have the 8500 in the truck. The differences to me: Range V1 has better range Reliability of hits Both are extremely reliable, if it pegs the lights you know for sure there is radar around. False hits 8500 has far less but that could be due to the difference in range ? All in all both are good but not driving like an idiot is your #1 defense against tickets :thumbsup:
