  1. The next car he buys better be for you if you're the one taking care of them all
  2. Washing/wiping after claying also helps prevent any Detail Spray from drying and causing pink spots all over. The spots will come off, but it just adds an extra step. What I do after claying is use my white drying towel to mop up all the Detail Spray. Add a tiny splash of bleach later on when you are washing the towel, and the pink stains come right out
  3. If you get a porter cable, the 4" pads will be great for doing your bike
  4. basically the same thing it depends on the severity of the swirls. you can post a picture to let others get a better idea of what direction to steer you in but most of the time you'll need to start with SHR. every car and paint finish type are different, and factoring in the condition of the finish, it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days to correct an entire car. I spent about 6 hours on my Corvette just correcting the paint, and in comparison to most cars C4's are small It will be better for both you and the car for paint correction to be done in the shade. I would ask a friend if you can use their garage for a day. You don't want the surface of the car to be hot when you do this, and you don't want to sweat to death either
  5. The 12 hours everyone is speaking of is not the cure/dry time for the wax before you wipe off the residue. 12 hours after wiping off the residue, you should re-wipe the surface of the car because the superwax has oils in it that make their way to the surface of the wax after it dries. These oils cause a hazy look on the paint. If you put a second coat of wax on before waiting for the oils to come up and wipe them off, you'll trap them between the 2 layers of wax and the haziness will remain. You are correct to let the wax cure for about half an hour in your climate, just be sure to go wipe down the car with an MF towel and a little bit of Detail Spray 12 hours later before putting on any more wax
  6. I'm down to 3 cans so I've started being more conservative with my I&O, only using it for the cowl area and hard-to-reach hoses in the engine. I haven't tried the VRT/water mix.
  7. the video only loaded the first 50-something seconds then stopped
  8. I love your engine bay it's very tastefully done and I'm glad you have C5 center caps on those C6 wheels. Little details like that show that the owner really cares about what the car is, and not just what it looks like because they put different wheels on it. What exhaust system is that?
  9. Yeah, but if we all got newer models then we'd have to hang out with you and Rich or worse, Bill
  10. I use Green Wheel Cleaner and a soft toothbrush, but I've heard some other wild ideas that apparently work great, peanut oil being one.
  11. One of our Corvette friends Tommy and his father have an obsession with Nascar and Dale Earnhardt, and a 2-car garage in which to show it off - ultimately defining the term "no wasted space". I've seen pictures before but this was the first time I'd actually been to their house. All of us were at their house for a cookout on Sunday but I totally forgot my camera so sorry for the phone-quality pictures His dad's 1985 Dodge Ram Prospector with 35,000 original miles. Check out the custom paint on the tonneau cover This truck was awesome in every possible way He also has a 70-something Mercury Grand Marquis Special Edition talk about a huge car...no matter where I stood in the garage I couldn't get the whole thing in the frame I lost count of how many people slowed down or stopped as they drove by and just drooled over the driveway. The actual door off of one of Dale's cars....I forgot which race it was from but they have full documentation including photos of it being removed from the car
  12. Not car-related but I do spend a lot of my time here:
  13. Something about the Adam's shine seems to ring in all the first place trophies... Glad to see other people have the same problem Congrats Chris
  14. The yellow pad has more cut than the orange and is used for heavy damage like cleaning up wet-sanding. It isn't available individually on the site right now but I'm sure if you call up and talk to Ashley they can get you one if you want it.
  15. hehe I'll have to remember that phrase

    Car show today

    any pictures from the show??
  17. I also have the untextured Gen2 pads and after feeling the material of the textured ones at Carlisle I much prefer the untextured ones. With the untextured ones you can feel a significant difference in the density of the foam of each of the pads, the orange is very stiff in comparison to the white, whereas with the newer textured pads, let's just say that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference if I was feeling them with my eyes closed.
  18. I don't think it's too much, just make sure you use enough WW to saturate the areas so you aren't dragging dry dirt across the car with the towel. If you want, you can give it a quick blast with the hose. I know that defeats the whole 'waterless' purpose but it's a safer way if you think it's too much dirt. Looking at the picture you should be fine in my opinion
  19. living in a tiny state clouds my judgement sometimes
  20. If you're just going to detail it and put it on display I don't see a problem. I haven't found VRT to be slippery. At shows I always VRT the entire tire, even inside the treads, and haven't had any traction problems on the drive home. Probably because just driving out of the parking lot at idle speed is enough to take the dressing off the tread. I assume on a motorcycle the effect could be a little different though, but VRT leaves my tires dark but dry. Do you have any more pictures of that bike? The paint job looks sweeeeet
  21. I think what's missing are the corn fields We tried to keep count of how many we passed between Carlisle and the hotel, but it was just too overwhelming
  22. well obviously you need to clay your phone
