  1. Do you also have one of the earlier prototype towels?
  2. It's gradually getting done in stages, are you able to make it to the show in Cheshire next Sunday (May 5) ?
  3. These videos are pretty infamous on this forum. I don't understand why someone (who claims to have 25 years of experience, no less) could not only use such trashy towels and buckets, but take a hose to a car with an open door - especially one that costs more than some people's houses.
  4. I've found the glass sealant to be pesky when it comes to removing the residue. It is very very easy to miss whole spots, and you will end up with blotches unless you take your time and look at the glass from every possible angle. Try glass cleaner and a waffle towel. Do not oversaturate the towel, light misting works better.
  5. Is it a matte finish or glossy? If it's matte, lightly mist some Waterless Wash or Detail Spray on a towel and wipe the screen. If it's glossy like glass, use Glass Cleaner in the same manner, and (if you have it) follow it up with a coat of Glass Sealant to help cut down on fingerprints (I use it on my Galaxy S3's screen and it's so much easier to clean)
  6. I'm very happy with the results I get using Leather Cleaner misted on a towel to dust, and Leather Conditioner to treat/maintain the seats, door panels, etc. I would try out this new stuff if I didn't already have a ton of the other two products. The swabs on the other hand...must buy, especially for those dreaded air vents.
  7. Began my multi-day (since I currently lack a garage big enough to work in) process of undoing the damage of winter Like Chewy, the main reason for buying DWC was not for my wheels but to decontaminate my paint which I was sure had a ton of metallic particles embedded in it, especially on the rear end. My Process: Strip: Rinse, Foam with 1:1:1 APC:Shampoo:Water in Gilmour foam gun, two-bucket wash, rinse Decon: Working in sections of 1-2 panels at a time, I sprayed DWC on the paint and watched all these purple specks start to appear and then "bleed out". After about 5 minutes I simply rinsed the panel thoroughly (once bubbles stopped appearing in the water) - no agitation was needed, and all the particles fell right off. I used about 1/3 of the entire 36oz bottle, which is a lot less than I thought I would. Now I can try this out on something a bit more thrashed to really see the full extent of how well this product works. The smell is nowhere near as offensive as some people say, but I think that's because I didn't need to agitate the cleaner. Few photos: Clay: MUCH easier (and safer) once the metal particles were out. Also clayed all the glass. Dry: Used the leaf blower to eliminate standing water, and GW drying towel to take care of the residual. Polish: The wax held up rather well over the winter, and since I did a full correction last year, all I needed to do was some light maintenance. I used 2:1 Revive:SHR on a white pad on speed 5 (porter cable). Sealant: Used machine sealant over the whole car. While this was curing I also treated the glass and headlights with Glass Sealant. Since I was pressed for time, I didn't bother with the wheels, engine, or exhaust, or even dressing the tires and trim. This was all about getting the paint protected ahead of time so from here on out it's just regular washing.
  8. Most of the people who have this mentality are not aware of what swirl marks are, how they're caused, and how removing them will dramatically increase the aesthetic of the finish. They think that simply waxing will make any car look good and that it doesn't matter which wax you use. I can put a frame around a photo of Hitler but I still wouldn't want to look at it.
  9. Yup, sealant goes directly onto bare paint. Then you can top off with glaze, wax, or both.
  10. Corvette Store & More is holding a free car show on Sunday, May 5, from 9am - 3pm in Cheshire, CT. 11. Invision Powerboard, good choice. It's what I've used personally and on client sites for the past 10 years, pretty fluid and very feature-rich. Can't wait for the transition
  12. But yeah, this weather is absolute s#!t, and of course today was my only free time to detail this week. Was going to bring both cars (dad wants to come too) but neither are in presentable condition at the moment...Nature FTL.
  13. Nice results. Did it all eventually turn dark red/purple? I only see a little bit. Looking forward to this stuff for my wheel barrels and a customer's obliterated exhaust tips.
  14. I use 50/50 Revive/SHR on a white pad to do light maintenance and restore clarity if the vehicle has already been fully corrected. Every car's finish is different though, harder clearcoats won't respond well to this ratio/pad combo. Feel free to experiment
  15. I would say use the larger bucket for the rinse water as that is where you are depositing the majority of the dirt removed from the car. More water in that bucket = less that stays on the pad when you dunk it in your clean soap. Either way works though I suppose
  16. I like a cocktail of APC and Car Shampoo in a foam gun to strip wax without worry. If you use IPA I'd say a Waterless Wash towel will be your best choice
  17. Might be disturbing to some detailers 2013 Audi RS 4 Avant :: 'Ultimate Paintball Duel' [HD] - YouTube
  18. lighting and angle is important, especially when trying to capture the body lines. what a lot of people also do is look for physical contrast between their car and the backdrop. a gleaming paintjob against a dull rusted barn for example, really makes the car stand out and give the photo some character. it also helps to be familiar with the advanced settings on your camera. this part I still haven't quite nailed down yet lol
  19. How thick did you apply it? A little goes a long way, especially when used on hard, non-porous surfaces like diffusers and grills. After applying next time, you may choose to wipe down the surface with a clean towel to eliminate any spots where you may have applied too much.
